![]() I liked the way her relationship with Søren progressed as well, I felt really bad Spoiler about him being taken, but I'm glad she put her country before him because in my opinion that is what a queen would do. I know she had others behind her as well, but she was the one who came up with the plans most of the time. It was a bit unbelievable how good she is in planning a war she was a child when the Kaiser invaded, and I get that she learned some things from the Kalovaxiens, but it's not like they told her 'so this is how to plan a war - do this and that'?! It's very unbelievable to me how she could just come up with such great plans Spoiler that always worked out. She's really stepping up - no longer just a child, but slowly also a queen. I liked Theo a lot more in this one, she just didn't annoy me as much! I still think she annoyed me so much in the first book because I read it in my native language, and that made her even more whiny lol. I still love the short chapters, because it makes it so easy to read! There was quite a lot of planning in this book, but I didn't mind, because there was quite some action too. That would've made it even better for me, because now I'm kind of left wondering what happend to them in there. I really liked the way Spoiler more and more of her time in the mines was revealed throughout the book, but I would've liked to know more about Art's time or Heron's time in the mines for example. ![]() I think I enjoyed this book the most! The mines were really interesting to me, and I was a bit disappointed that we didn't get to see more of them. The battle for Astrea is approaching, and Theo has to figure out what to do. So the story picks up where the last book left off Theo going into the mines. If one does not adapt and move with them, all one can do is drown." I'd say this is appropriate for about 15+, but you should read and make your own decisions. So why 3.5 stars? Great, ending could have been better.Ĭontent: Violence, torture, death, mentions of prior assaults, tame PG-13 content. I gave this one a 3 because I thought the ending wasn't quite right, but I will definitely be checking out more from her. It's a great political fantasy series.Īnd considering how AWFULLY most YA fantasy novels end, this one should get a 5-star for that alone. I think this book should get a LOT more love than it does. But I will say that since there are both Soren fans and Blaise fans, one set of fans will likely be pretty unhappy about how this book turns out. I can't say too much about what happened there without spoilers. I have always been a Soren fan over a Blaise fan. That's all I'll say without giving away anything. Having said that, I wish the ending had been a little different. Her strength and brilliance come from alliances, strategy, and making hard choices. Theo has never been a traditional bad-a character nor a soft character nor is she "traditionally likable." But I like her. ![]() It seems to be one that is kind of hit or miss for people, but I really enjoyed the characters, including Theo. My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: So I have really enjoyed this series.
